When trying to build walls in damp conditions such as when getting through an aquifer in a soil layer you need to make sure that the area to be built on and the area the dwarf needs to stand on to build from are at 1 7 or 0 7 when you set the order to build the wall.
How do you build walls and roofs in dwarf fortress.
These tasks are carried out by dwarves with the mining labor activated.
Then build your walls in all but one space in the middle of a wall.
In that space build stairs going up.
Make sure you carve fortifications don t construct fortifications otherwise you won t be able to build on top of them.
Z2 finish your stairs and build your floor out to the edge of the walls.
Z2 deconstruct the stair in the middle of that wall.
I use internal scaffolding.
Build floor covering area out to the walls.
On the second level of stone blocks carve out fortifications.
It s far easier and faster.
If the area the dwarf needs to stand on is 2 7 when the wall is designated to be built then the dwarf will try to build the wall by standing in the space the wall will occupy and will never complete the work.
Build a wall in that spot.
Z1 build your walls and stairs going up.
